How it works
- The first $90,000 you earn each year is tax-free.
- Some of what you pay is tax-free too: 70% of your NIS, and pension payments.
- What’s left is taxed at 25%.
- If your employer took more than that from your pay, you’re owed the difference, and you claim it by filing.

Common questions
How much tax will I pay on my salary in Trinidad and Tobago?
The first $90,000 you earn each year is tax-free. After that, and after deductions like 70% of your NIS, you pay 25%. Only income over $1,000,000 is taxed at 30%.
How much can I earn before paying income tax?
$90,000 a year, about $7,500 a month. NIS and pension payments raise that a little more.
Is NIS tax-free?
Partly. 70% of the NIS taken from your pay comes off your taxable income. Health Surcharge doesn't.
Am I owed a tax refund?
Add the income tax taken from your pay, from your TD4. If more was taken than you owe, the calculator shows your refund. You only get it back by filing a return.
Is this the same calculation TaxDash uses?
